About Us
Ga’ava, is a non-profit organization for the LGBTQ Jewish community in Montreal. The name is the translation of pride from Hebrew. Ga’ava was created to address the lack of organizations supporting and fighting for the equal rights of LGBT Jews within the Jewish community of Montreal. Ga’ava was officially launched on March 30th 2008, and was founded by students from both McGill University and Concordia University.
Ga’ava aims to:
• increase the visibility of LGBTQ Jews as integral members of the community
• eliminate discrimination and gain social recognition within the Jewish community
• offer the support and resources necessary for LGBTQ Jews
Ga’ava will pursue these goals by setting social events and services to its members, and by promoting social networking within the community, all while fostering Jewish values and identity.
Over the past 3 years of its existence, Ga’ava has participated in events celebrating the International Day against Homophobia, Image+Nation, the Pride Week celebrations, the Pride parade, and various Jewish holidays. Ga’ava also offers monthly socials, where members can ‘schmooze’ and get to know each other and the members of the community at large.
We are an all-inclusive group where all are welcome, regardless of one’s gender, sexual orientation, racial background, or religious beliefs; as long as the organization’s purpose and goals are supported and respected.
